You need someone to manage a project in Amsterdam — or the Netherlands more broadly. You want a professional who can take the reins, coordinate stakeholders and make sure things get done. This is what a freelance project manager does, and what I can do for you specifically.
What does a freelance project manager do?
A freelance project manager takes responsibility for delivering a project on time, within budget and to the agreed scope. That means:
- Setting up a realistic project plan with milestones and responsibilities
- Coordinating between all parties involved (contractors, suppliers, internal teams)
- Monitoring progress and signalling deviations early
- Managing stakeholder communication — from daily updates to board-level reporting
- Identifying and managing risks before they become problems
- Resolving conflicts when parties disagree
Why hire a freelancer rather than an agency?
A freelance project manager gives you direct access to the person doing the work — no account manager in between, no overhead costs, no senior consultant handing you off to a junior. You get exactly what you’re paying for.
Freelancers also tend to be more flexible. You can scale up or down as the project demands, and engagement can be structured per phase, per day or per hour — whatever makes sense for your situation.
My background and approach
I’m Stéphan de Lange, based in Amsterdam. My background is unusual for a project manager: I combine hands-on technical knowledge (construction, web development, product development, CNC manufacturing) with project management experience. That means I understand what’s being built, coded or made — I’m not just tracking tasks on a spreadsheet.
I’ve managed projects in construction renovation, web development, product development and creative industry contexts. I work in Dutch, English and German — so international teams and clients are no problem.
Who I work with
My clients include:
- International companies operating in the Netherlands who need a local project manager
- Expats renovating their Amsterdam home who want a professional coordinator
- SMEs launching a new product, website or business unit
- Startups who need structured execution without the overhead of a full-time hire
What does it cost?
I work on an hourly or day-rate basis. Rates depend on the scope and duration of the project. I’m transparent about time estimates upfront — no surprises on the invoice.
